CSUN's Art Galleries Present the Ninth Annual High School Art Invitational

(NORTHRIDGE, Calif., Nov. 21, 2005) -- Cal State Northridge invites the public to celebrate the opening of the ninth annual "High School Art Invitational," with an opening reception on Friday, Dec. 9, from 7-9 p.m. at the university's art galleries.

The work of nearly 200 students from more than 35 San Fernando Valley area high schools will be represented at the exhibit.

It will feature the students' work in different types of media including painting, sculpture, video, graphic design and mixed media.

The young exhibitors were selected by art teachers from their respective schools. Widespread participation in this exhibition signals the continued growth and growing interest in arts programs for public and private schools, exhibit organizers noted.

The exhibit is free of charge and will remain on display through Jan. 14. Gallery hours are Mondays through Saturdays from noon to 4 p.m. The gallery will be closed from Dec. 23 through Jan. 2 for the campus-wide winter recess.

Louise Lewis, CSUN's gallery director, will discuss the exhibit on Monday, Dec. 12, at 10 a.m. at the gallery.

For more information about the exhibit, call (818) 677-2156.
