the Campus Community:
I
am pleased to announce the appointment of Bob Moulton as the interim
Chief Information Officer (CIO), effective October 10. Mr. Moulton
will serve until an appointment is made to the regular CIO position.
The University is in the process of launching this search, which
Provost Harry Hellenbrand will chair.
As
interim CIO, Mr. Moulton will lead the division of Information Technology
Resources and oversee implementation of the recommendations from
this summer’s assessment that consultants conducted of information
technology services at Cal State Northridge. Specifically, he will
be charged with improving the customer service orientation for all
information technology services, enhancing our already strong network
infrastructure, developing project management processes, mentoring
managers and staff to improve the effectiveness of both individuals
and the organization, and supporting the Help Desk as it rebuilds
into a more effective operation.
Mr.
Moulton has more than 30 years of successful information technology
experience in all phases of management, consulting, technical support
and customer service. He has specialized in strategy and planning,
data center and user support center operations, software development,
staff management and development, and supporting complex strategic
information systems for public and private sector clients.
With
an Executive Master’s of Business Administration and a Bachelor’s
degree in Industrial Education from the University of Illinois,
Mr. Moulton has held a variety of regional- and national-level executive
positions at IBM. His most recent responsibilities included developing
an electronic support delivery strategy for IBM North America. Previous
positions included serving as regional CIO for all business-related
technology for 39 of the largest cities in IBM’s Midwestern
area.
Mr.
Moulton has extensive experience working with higher education institutions.
For several years, Mr. Moulton helped lead IBM’s North American
Higher Education Consulting Practice. He led a team of 8 consultants
to help colleges and universities develop and implement strategic
technology plans that maximized the effectiveness of their investments
in information technology, telecommunications, telephony, and the
associated support infrastructure. His clients included the University
of Michigan, Cornell University, Cleveland State University, and
Lewis and Clark Community College. In addition, Mr. Moulton provided
technical support for higher education clients throughout the Chicago
area, including Northwestern University, the University of Illinois
at Chicago, DePaul University, City Colleges of Chicago and the
College of DuPage.

I
also would like to take this opportunity to again thank Spero Bowman
for his work as CIO. His accomplishments placed Cal State Northridge
at the forefront of higher education institutions in the area of
information technology. As he returns full time to focus on his
responsibilities as Associate Vice President for Academic Resources,
I am pleased the University will continue to benefit from his contributions
and leadership.
