President's Office

Appreciation / Congratulations banner for graduates / Fall 2016 Welcome Address

May 6, 2016

To CSUN Faculty and Staff,

As we approach the end of the academic year, I would like to thank each of you for your contributions and continued commitment to the university. Your talent, focus and dedication have served to advance the university's reputation and the success of our students. You should be proud of the university's accomplishments this past year, which would not be possible without your dedication and hard work.

In a few weeks, we also celebrate the culmination of our students' academic careers. This year, a record number of students -- more than 11,000 -- have been invited to walk across the stage at commencement. To honor the graduates, I invite you to join me in continuing a tradition that began three years ago by signing a banner from CSUN's faculty and staff congratulating the class of 2016 for successfully completing their degrees.

The banner will be available for signing in the Colleagues Room on the second floor of the Sierra Center, on Tuesday, May 10, Wednesday, May 11, and Thursday, May 12, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day. This is a special milestone that will be always remembered by the graduates and the friends and family, so I hope all of you can find time to share messages of good wishes and congratulations as our graduates begin the next phase of their lives. As in past years, the banner will be on prominent display on the Oviatt Library quad during graduation week. Let's fill the banner with warm wishes for our graduates!

Finally, please note that my annual fall welcome address to kick off the 2016-17 academic year is scheduled on Thursday, August 25, 2016 at the Valley Performing Arts Center. A notice about the event will be sent as we get closer to the date. I look forward to seeing you after a restful summer to celebrate the start of a fresh academic year. I hope each of you has an opportunity to enjoy the summer with family and friends!
