Student Membership Criteria and Fees for Student Chapter


  • Student membership shall be open to any person duly registered at CSUN in good standing with the Accounting and Register's office, and fulfilling the membership requirements of the organization may be a member.
  • Student membership shall be extended to all majors.
  • In order to guarantee equal human rights for the student body of CSUN, equal opportunities shall be afforded all students without regard to race, color, religion, creed, gender, pregnancy, marital affiliation, sexual or affectional orientation, age, ethnic origin, citizenship, nationality, veteran status, or physical disability.

  • General Meetings
    Participation in all events and activities, including General Meetings, professional guest speakers, end-of-semester banquet, and any other special events.
  • Voting Power
    Nominate, be a candidate, and vote in elections as well as hold office in this Association.
  • Leadership
    Have the opportunity to hold leadership roles and demonstrate knowledge and hard work to others.
  • Networking with Speakers
    Gain knowledge and network with professional speakers for on-campus meetings and special events presenting different topics and situations about real work environment and what we need to know for a successful career.

    Participate in organized internship programs that will help students to get a first hand experience on how the real world works.
  • Professional Mentoring
    Participate in professional mentoring and coaching that will help members have a better understanding of how their coursework translates into the business environment and how to be successful in it.
  • CSUN Networking
    Network with PIHRA leaders, other students with similar interests, and professors and Alumni interested in the HR or Management fields.
  • PIHRA District 9 
    Student Chapter leaders have the opportunity to participate on PIHRA District 9 governing board (covering the San Fernando Valley) and attend their monthly meetings.
  • Resume Preparation
    Individual or group assistance in resume preparation and interview skills for any career or job.
  • PIHRA Experience Improves your Resume 
    PIHRA/MA participates in the Student Development Transcript Program (SDTP). This program enables students to document their extra-curricular experiences in the form of a development transcript which may be presented as a compliment to the academic transcript and paid work experience resume.

    Networking
    As the leading human resource organization in Southern California with over 4,500 members, PIHRA provides you with valuable opportunities to network with your peers representing all regions and industries in Southern California.

    California Chamber of Commerce Discounts
    As part of a PIHRA-only partnership, California Chamber of Commerce offers a 15% discount on ALL of their products (including membership) to PIHRA members.

    Monthly Meetings
    Each of PIHRA's 16 districts meets monthly for a breakfast or lunch meeting with a speaker on current HR issues and great networking opportunities. Information about all the district meetings is included every month in the PIHRAScope, PIHRA's bi-monthly publication.  

    Annual Conference and Exhibition
    PIHRA's Annual Conference is the largest human resources conference on the West Coast.  It is held each year at a regional Southern California convention center. The Conference features keynote speakers and seminars that address specific HR issues as well as exhibits displaying the latest HR products and services.

    PIHRA Learning Center
    Half and full day workshops providing concrete technical HR information that you can take back to your office and implement right away.

    Annual Legal Update
    An Annual Legal Update is presented at the beginning of each year and again during mid-year. Legal Update is a full day seminar featuring prominent attorneys and experts presenting pertinent information regarding the latest Legal issues facing the HR practitioner.

    PIHRAScope
    Our bi-monthly publication PIHRAScope is packed with current information and articles related to HR practices, issues and PIHRA events.

    Legal Hotline
    This toll-free service is available to members who have questions or concerns on legal matters affecting their companies.  A member service designed to provide quick answers and direction to your HR legal questions.

    For the low cost of $35 per year, student membership includes:

    • HRMagazine. Twelve monthly issues of this full-color magazine featuring in-depth articles on human resource management.

    Networking Opportunities

    • Annual Conference. The SHRM Annual Conference & Exposition featuring over 150 educational sessions, a one-day student conference, and attendance of over 10,000 professionals and 300 students. The conference is held in June and national student members can attend at a substantial discount. Information and registration forms are mailed to all national student members each January.
    • Member Directory Online. Searchable database helps you locate SHRM professional members around the country and the world. Exclusively for SHRM members. If you already belong to the Society, click here to use the directory.
    • SHRM Online's HR Talk. Exclusively for members of SHRM. Go online to discuss issues affecting the HR profession. If you are already a member, click here to enter HR Talk.
    • State & Regional Conferences. Student and professional educational conferences held around the country sponsored by local SHRM chapters.

    Other Benefits

    • Membership card. An official SHRM membership card including your membership number which allows you to access your membership services.
    • Scholarships. Three annual scholarships recognizing outstanding student leaders. Award winners receive $1000, a commemorative plaque, and a complimentary registration to the Society's annual conference. Application deadline is March 1.

    • Conversion Dues. Graduating members can convert their membership to professional status for only $80 for one year of membership, half off the regular membership fee of $160!     Membership Levels


    An accumulation of 175 points throughout your PIHRA/MA career earns you a stole for graduation. Returning members recieve a discount each semester. As an Executive Board, we appreciate each member's hard work and commitment to PIHRA with the gift of the stole.

    Platinum Membership, Total = $75

    • SHRM 1 Year student member*, $35
    • PIHRA 1 Year student member**, $30
    • Automatic 5 points added each month (September through May) to total membership points
    • General PIHRA/MA membership for the year, $10
    • $4 off Evening with Industry
    • PIHRA/MA T-Shirt

    Gold Membership, Total = $50

    • SHRM  1 Year student member*, $35
    • Automatic 3 points added each month (September through May) to total membership points
