Title: Solvation of impurities in superfluid 4He
Abstract: Superfluid helium is an exceptional solvent with several unique properties (e.g. vanishing viscosity, a super-thermal conductivity, and liquid phase down to 0 K), which allow for fast energy dissipation, free diffusion of atoms and molecules, and minimization of thermal perturbations. To study the liquid on atomic scale, solvated atoms and molecules may be used as probes to yield information on both its static and dynamic properties. From the chemistry point of view, its unusual properties may be applied in producing unusual chemical species by the solvent and vortex guided mechanisms. In this talk, I will describe results from my latest calculations on solvation of dielectron bubbles and rare gas clusters in superfluid helium.
