POSTDOCTORAL POSITION IN ADAPTIVE OPTICS
Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Position with the High-Resolution Imaging Laboratory at California State University Northridge. The successful applicant will work with Professor Deqing Ren on a project to develop a solar adaptive optics system for national leading solar telescopes. The research will involve the design, construction and software development of a portable Adaptive Optics system that is currently supported by National Science Foundation. Responsibilities will include: laboratory assembling, alignment, software development, and test of the adaptive optics. A Ph.D. in optics, physics, computer science, astronomy or equivalent in an area is relevant to this project. Software development using LabVIEW or previous experience in adaptive optics is highly desirable, but not of a necessity. The appointment is initially for two years with the possibility of renewal for an additional year, depending on the funding. This position could start March 2010. POST-DOCTORAL RESEARCH ASSOCIATE

A research associate position in the field of biophysics and biochemistry of phospholipase membrane enzymology is immediately available. Candidates must have three to four years of demonstrated laboratory and research expereince in conducting phospholipase enzyme kinetic studies in membranes and mixed micelles, data interpretation and modeling, physicochemical characterization of micelles and vesicles using various techniques including fluorescence, NMR, SANS, ESR, Viscometry and other methods as well. COMPUTATIONAL MATERIALS THEORY

Several postdoctoral positions are available in the Computational Materials Theory Center at California State University Northridge for research in multiscale modeling of materials, ranging from electronic structure and atomistic processes to transport phenomena. We are looking for candidates having a strong background in at least one of the following fields: strongly correlated electron systems, computational materials physics, first-principles electronic structure theory, molecular dynamics and Monte Carlo simulations, and non-equilibrium transport.
The selected candidates will work in one of the following projects according to their qualifications, experience and motivation: 1) Dislocation core properties in metals and intermetallics; 2) the effect of solutes on dislocation motion in metallic alloys; 3) dislocation core properties in bimetallic interfaces; 4) Strongly Correlated Electron Systems; 5) Electron and spin transport in quantum dots and molecular electronics; and 6) Electronic and optical properties of defects and defects reactions in Hydrogen -Bonded Molecular Crystals.
In some cases, the positions are available immediately, while others will become available in the September 2003. Initial appointment is for one year, renewable for a second and/or third year (based upon satisfactory performance).
