FACULTY POSITIONS (PART TIME LECTURER) - GENERAL

Fall 2008 & Spring 2009

Applicants should submit the following materials by mail:

  • A letter to the Chair of the Department of Physics and Astronomy indicating an interest in working as a part time instructor in the department. The letter should also address the applicant's interest in teaching lecture classes, laboratory sections, in Physics and/or in Astronomy.

  • A complete resume showing colleges attended, degrees earned, dates of degrees and work experience to date.

  • Class evaluations from other institutions if available.

  • Two letters of recommendation and three additional references from employers or previous departments at which you have taught similar classes.

  • Applicants with a Ph.D. in Physics or Astronomy are preferred. Ph.D. candidates just about to graduate are also encouraged.

POST-DOCTORAL RESEARCH ASSOCIATE

SUPRAMOLECULAR STUDIES

A two-year research associateship is immediately available in bio-physical chemistry. A Ph. D in physics or physical chemistry, or biochemistry with interests and some knowledge and experience in phospholipase kinetics and physicochemical characterization of micelles and vesicles is required. COMPUTATIONAL MATERIALS THEORY
CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY, NORTHRIDGE


Several postdoctoral positions are available in the Computational Materials Theory Center at California State University Northridge for research in multiscale modeling of materials, ranging from electronic structure and atomistic processes to transport phenomena. We are looking for candidates having a strong background in at least one of the following fields: strongly correlated electron systems, computational materials physics, first-principles electronic structure theory, molecular dynamics and Monte Carlo simulations, and non-equilibrium transport.

The selected candidates will work in one of the following projects according to their qualifications, experience and motivation: 1) Dislocation core properties in metals and intermetallics; 2) the effect of solutes on dislocation motion in metallic alloys; 3) dislocation core properties in bimetallic interfaces; 4) Strongly Correlated Electron Systems; 5) Electron and spin transport in quantum dots and molecular electronics; and 6) Electronic and optical properties of defects and defects reactions in Hydrogen -Bonded Molecular Crystals.

In some cases, the positions are available immediately, while others will become available in the September 2003. Initial appointment is for one year, renewable for a second and/or third year (based upon satisfactory performance).
