Position: GEAR UP Student Assistant
Wage: $10 hr.
Hours: 15-20 hours per week (Must be able to work at least four consecutive hours at a time.)
Student Assistants will work with students in the Los Angeles Unified School District which includes: Richard E. Byrd Middle School, Roy Romer Middle School, Van Nuys Middle School, and Sun Valley Middle School. Student Assistants will be part of the federally funded GEAR UP grant program designed to significantly increase the number of students who enter into college. The primary focus of the student assistant will be to assist students with the planning and preparation for college and beyond.

Position: ETS Academic Tutor and Pre-College Advisor
Wage: Starting salary is $10 hr.
Hours: Fall/Spring, 12-15 hrs. per week. Prefer students that have 2-3 full days available for work during the week.
Assignment Date: As Soon As Possible
Provide academic tutoring and pre-college advisement to middle school and/or high school students participating in the Educational Talent Search program. Educational Talent Search is federally funded TRiO program that seeks to increase the number of first generation and low-income students that successfully enroll in post secondary institutions.
Provide pre-college advisement to students in the areas of college awareness, life skills, financial aid, and academic preparedness. Maintain complete and accurate records of pre-college advisement sessions; provide student follow-up and periodic assessments. Attend mandatory training sessions to increase competency in working with students. Assist ETS Advising Coordinators with outreach and recruitment efforts. Serve as a positive role model for ETS students. Perform other duties as assigned to achieve project goals and objectives.
Additional responsibilities may include providing academic tutoring to students in small groups or individual assistance in areas of specific academic need (i.e. English, math, and other core subject areas) for student's grades 6-12. Assist students in achieving a better understanding of specific subject material and improve academic capabilities in designated areas.
Prior tutoring or peer advisement experience with students, grades 6-12, in a classroom setting or after school program. Possess a desire to work with first generation, low-income students to increase access to higher education and financial aid opportunities, and academic preparedness. Must be friendly, punctual, professional, proactive, and a quick learner. Minimum grade point average of 3.0 or higher in subject matter. Two letters of reference from professors required if selected.
The mission of Educational Talent Search is to equip first generation and low income students and parents with accurate information on post secondary and financial aid opportunities to empower students to attend the college/university of their choice after high school graduation.

Upward Bound is federally funded TRiO program that seeks to increase the number of first generation and low-income students that successfully enroll in post secondary institutions.

Position: Outreach Internship Program Student Assistant

The Outreach Internship Program (OIP) is designed to support matriculated Cal State Northridge students by providing a mechanism for them to engage in outreach services. The Outreach Internship Program (OIP) has complemented Student Outreach and Recruitment Services for 18 year years by providing peer advisor/mentor services. OIP Students are trained in the areas of pre-admissions consulting, guest relations and marketing and communications with the overarching purpose of increasing access to the CSU and California State University Northridge for high school and community college students in our local area. OIP is designed to provide a meaningful experience in career and self-awareness for current CSUN students while complementing their educational experience.
