Genea Miller
Genea Miller is living proof that if you organize your time and dedicate yourself you can get involved on campus, change your major AND graduate in four years. Genea Miller has had the "college experience." Arriving in September 2003 as a freshman Genea was a Kinesiology major, living away from home for the first time (she is originally from the Bay Area), with no idea on how to meet people or get involved. Today, Genea is a senior Health Administration major who has been a Resident Advisor in Campus Housing, is the current Vice-President for the Health Administration Student Association (will be president next semester), is a student associate for the American College Healthcare Executives and the Healthcare Financial Management Association, is an active member of the University Ambassadors, works as an Administrative Coordinator and Intern at Valley Presbyterian Hospital's Clinical Care Extender Program and is also an Intern for at Health Net.
Genea switched her major from Kinesiology to Health Administration when she realized she no longer wanted to work as a Physical Therapist but wanted to remain working in the Health Care field. She loves her classes and her professors. The majority of her professors not only lecture, but they bring in health care professionals to lecture as well. They also do site visits where they are able to learn and get some hands on experience in the areas that they are most interested in. Her professors promote leadership roles through campus and national organizations that they are involved in and they encourage their students to get involved and network. Her classes are small and there is plenty of one-on-one interaction with her professors.
She says that the one piece of advice she would give to an incoming student is to get involved! Getting involved in a diverse group of organizations has allowed Genea to meet people from different cultures and backgrounds, has allowed her to develop her communication and public speaking skills and has given her specific skills such as workshop development and delivery.
Upon graduation in May 2007, Genea hopes to go pursue her Master's Degree in Health Administration and eventually would like to work in the health care field, specifically Health Care Policy and would one day like to start a family.
