Ask a real question like:
"What is the freshman admission criteria?"
Everyone at Cal State Northridge knows Jordi Ubaldo-he's the face behind Matty the Matador, the university's popular mascot. Jordi volunteered to be Matty for a day when he noticed the mascot's absence at a number of events. A one-time gig turned into a long-term role, and now Jordi/Matty appears regularly all over campus. Jordi says he enjoys being the spirit of the school and helping boost morale, and that being Matty is a great way to let out the goofy side of himself-a useful outlet for someone with his intense schedule.

1. Why did you choose Cal State Northridge?
I wasn't ready to move out, I wanted to stay local.
2. What types of things are you involved with outside of class?
I work at Student Outreach and Recruitment, I'm a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon, I'm the Morale Chair for University Ambassadors, and I play intramural basketball and volleyball and all the sports for my fraternity. I always attended a lot of games regularly, so being Matty the Matador is great. A highlight for me was participating in the intercollegiate Mascot Challenge at Anaheim's ESPN Zone-that was one of the most rewarding things I've ever done.
3. Have you earned any awards or have any special achievements?
I was voted athlete of the year in my fraternity.
4. What do you like to do in your free time-on and off campus?
I don't have any free time-it's called sleeping!
5. What's the best thing about being a student at Cal State Northridge?
I really like the multicultural experience, the diversity here. You meet new people every day. And it's a great education. I'm certainly getting my money's worth-if not more.
6. Do you have a favorite professor?
David Callaghan, who teaches Intro to Photoshop. He's a great professor-good feedback, easy to approach, works one-on-one with students.
7. What's the most valuable thing you've learned so far?
Get involved-don't be shy. Stay open-minded about trying new things out.
8. What do you look forward to most upon graduation? What will you miss?
I'm looking forward to seeing the smiles on the faces of my parents, my family, when I graduate-I'm the first generation to go to college. I'll really miss all the games and extra-curricular activities.
9. What advice would you give to incoming students?
To get involved on campus as much as you can. At times it may seem overwhelming, but in the end it really pays off. Time management is huge-know your limits. Saying no is ok. Most of all, have fun and enjoy life!
