Naser Alawad

Naser Alawad is an international student from Kuwait who has dreamed of attending school in the U.S. since he was in fifth grade. He is thrilled with his choice of Cal State Northridge. A bit apprehensive at first about feeling alone, he discovered that the students here are very friendly and he made friends fast-especially through involvement with organizations like the International Students Club. Patrick Beck

Patrick Beck comes from an all-CSUN family-his dad and uncle are alums, his older brother Jason got his B.S. here and is staying to pursue a master's degree, and a second brother Chris graduated in 2006, worked on his master's in journalism, and is now off to law school. Read more

Guadalupe Covarrubias

Guadalupe "Lupe" Covarrubias was a successful accountant with an accounting firm when she began to lose her vision due to a rare condition called retinitis pigmentosa. With a family to support, she realized she would need to find a field that did not require as much computer work. Family members and friends recommended teaching, noting Lupe's warm personality, high energy, and love of learning. Lupe had always excelled in English, so she decided that becoming a high school English teacher would be a good choice. Read more

Alyssa Mazur

Alyssa "A.J." Mazur is always joking and making people laugh, and she has a very tight-knit group of friends that mean the world to her. Her love of people and desire to help were motivating factors in her pursuit of a Sociology degree. Now she's staying on at CSUN to pursue her Master's in Social Work. Read more

Meera Motta

For Meera Motta, an international master's student from India, an interest in kinesiology with emphasis in adapted physical activity turned from professional to personal when she was involved in an accident and suffered traumatic brain injury with multiple facial fractures. While friends and family urged her to take a break from her academics, she refused to miss even one semester. Read more

Paige Stern

After spending her freshman year in Israel, Paige Stern wanted to attend college at a place close to home but still far enough away so that she could have some independence. Cal State Northridge turned out to be the perfect choice. One thing that helped Paige make a strong connection to Cal State Northridge was getting involved in New Student Orientation and its TAKE program. Read more

Sugata Sumida came to Cal State Northridge eager to embark on her degree in Public Administration. Originally from Japan, Sugata was surprised how warm and welcoming the people are at Cal State Northridge, and how accepting they are of different cultures. Read more

Jordi Ubaldo

Everyone at Cal State Northridge knows Jordi Ubaldo-he's the face behind Matty the Matador, the university's popular mascot. Jordi volunteered to be Matty for a day when he noticed the mascot's absence at a number of events. Read more

Dennis Yongmaneeratana

Dennis Yongmaneeratana has a contagious enthusiasm for Cal State Northridge - which serves him well in his role as President of the University Ambassadors. He considers Northridge to be the best Cal State campus by far and says he loves showing off the university to visitors and prospective students. Read more
