How safe is your campus?

Safety is a top priority at Cal State Northridge.

Our Department of Police Services is an accredited law enforcement agency staffed with sworn peace officers with full police powers. Officers patrol our campus 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and are available at any time by calling our communication center at (818) 677-2111 or stopping by the public safety building.

All universities — whether in small towns or big cities — experience unwanted crime from time to time and Cal State Northridge is no exception. Parents should encourage their students to become informed, responsible members of the campus community and take advantage of the Department of Police Services' many programs in crime prevention and personal safety. The department's experts will teach your student how to defend himself or herself against an assault, and deter identity or property theft. A student group called The Matador Patrol provides personal security escorts.

On our campus, your student is never far from an emergency call box. We have dozens of blue-light emergency phones throughout campus, as well as TTY call boxes for the deaf and hard of hearing. These devices connect directly with police dispatchers.

Did you know that your student can get a free vehicle battery jump or assistance with a key lockout simply by calling police dispatch at (818) 677-2111?
