Information Systems

The BSIS Program provides students the opportunity to specialize in the IS field by choosing from two options. (1) Business or (2) Information Technology. Although both Program Options have the same core IS courses, the Business Option focuses on the managerial side of IS (requiring more business courses) while the Information Technology Option focuses on the technical side of IS (requiring Computer Science courses).

The degree in Information Systems provides a basic preparation for careers in management information systems, such as information systems specialist, computer systems analyst, data base administrator or information center specialist.  Information systems consist of the management of the information technology – computers, data and voice communications – to support business operations and corporate strategy, in addition to providing all necessary transaction processing for an organization.

Information Systems plays an increasingly crucial role in the successful future of organizations as electronic information penetrates all business functions and levels of the organization. Computers on every desk make possible faster accessibility of information, and allows that information to be more widely integrated.  Because of the enormous growth of information technology, the increased demand for current and relevant information and the anticipated revolution of the information superhighway, Information Systems will soon be pervasive.
