Graduation Application Process

Your application for the Bachelor’s Degree and Diploma initiates the graduation process, participation in Commencement, and receipt of your diploma.

You may apply for graduation once you have completed 90 units (including work-in-progress) or approximately one year prior to your planned graduation date. At least one semester of work must be completed in residence at Cal State Northridge before the Admissions and Records can complete a graduation evaluation.

Please take the following steps in order to apply for graduation:

STEP 1:
Be aware of the Graduation Application Deadlines.* You are encouraged to apply approximately one year before your gradation date. For exact filing period dates, consult the graduation calendar .
STEP 2:
Print and complete the Bachelor’s Degree and Diploma Application. Include your correct catalog year and major.
STEP 3:
Complete a My Academic Planner (MAP), accessible on the Portal by clicking on View My Academic Planner. (We encourage all students to take advantage of this useful tool to help plan your remaining coursework; if you need help, view the SOLAR Self Service How To Guides for assistance.
OR Provide a Degree Progress Report (DPR), and a completed Course Planner (.doc) form.
STEP 4:
Submit your completed Bachelor’s Degree and Diploma Application and My Academic Planner (or DPR & Course Planner) to the Student Services Center and EOP Satellite in Juniper Hall 2113, for approval.
STEP 5:
If approved, the Bachelor’s Degree and Diploma Application will be available for pick up after one week. (If you have minors or other majors, you must secure approval signatures from those respective departments).
STEP 6:
Take the Bachelor’s Degree and Diploma Application with approval signatures to the Cashier Services in the lobby of Bayramian Hall to pay the diploma fees, currently $47. There is a $ 10 late fee if applicable. Check for Admissions and Records deadlines.
STEP 7:
Submit to Admissions & Records your approved Bachelor’s Degree and Diploma Application form, and a copy of your MAP.

*IMPORTANT NOTE From A&R:  Applying after the filing period deadline may delay receipt of your graduation evaluation and your grad senior status priority registration appointment time. Commencement participation could be affected.  Check Graduation Calendar for more details; the final deadline for participation in commencement is generally in very early March.
