What is "Transfer Student Orientation"?

Transfer Student Orientation is designed to help students understand college expectations and individual responsibilities as CSUN students. In addition, transfer students will familiarize themselves with building locations and important campus services. Transfer Student Orientation allows transfer students the opportunity to meet highly trained Orientation Leaders, who provide valuable information, guidance and insight about the context of the university. Transfer students will also make new friends, easing the transition to Cal State Northridge. Overall, Transfer Student Orientation allows transfer students to become knowledgeable and well-prepared students and to begin their journey towards graduation with confidence.

How do I register?

To register please visit https://studentaffairs.csun.edu/nso/Login.php utilize your student I.D. # and Last name.

*Your student I.D. # can be found in various student documents that you have received from the Office of Admissions and Records. Your I.D. # can most easily be found on your student admissions packet which showed you your date to register for classes.

How long is Transfer Student Orientation?

Transfer Student Orientation is from 8:00 am until 12:30 pm.

Is it mandatory to attend Transfer Student Orientation?

Transfer students are not required to attend orientation, but it is highly recommended. The information provided offers insight that will help transfer students ease into the transition to California State University, Northridge.

Do I have to pay to attend Transfer Student Orientation?

Yes. The fee for Transfer Student Orientation is $35. Following Orientation attendance, each student will be billed individually by the university. This charge can be found on the student's myNorthridge Portal account, by choosing "view Account Information" under the "My Financial Obligations" tab.

What does my $35 fee cover?

The $35 fee includes program materials, handbook, continental breakfast, and snacks.

Will financial aid cover my $35 fee?

No. Financial Aid will not cover this Orientation Fee.

Will I receive lunch at Transfer Student Orientation?

No, lunch will not be provided. However, we encourage you to explore Northridge and visit restaurants in the area.

Will I get academic advisement or be able to register for my classes during my Orientation day?

No. Academic Advisement and University Registration are separate events and will not occur at Orientation. For more information please contact your advisor. Please visit http://www.csun.edu/ for a list of colleges and departments.

Can family and friends attend Transfer Student Orientation with me?

No. Orientation is designed specifically to assist students in learning about responsibilities and challenges they may expect as new students attending CSUN. Orientation provides information on what students can do and possible resources to seek when assistance is needed. Family and friends are highly discouraged from attending.

What can family and friends do while I am at Transfer Student Orientation?

There are several options for family and friends to explore in the Northridge area while you are attending Orientation. Northridge has malls, movie theatres, bowling alleys, miniature golf parks, and bookstores that your family and friends may enjoy. A more detailed list with directions will be available for distribution on the day of Orientation.

Where do I park during Transfer Student Orientation?

Parking is available in Lot G3, located on Zelzah Avenue and Prairie Street. There will be directional signs posted leading you to the parking lot. Students will be provided with a courtesy parking pass on the day of their Orientation.

*Please note the parking pass is only valid the day of your Orientation. All other days require a CSUN parking permit.

What if I misplaced my parking pass?

If you misplaced your parking pass, an orientation leader will be available in lot G3 to provide you with a new one.

What should I bring to Transfer Student Orientation?

  1. Class Schedule: Orientation leaders will be able to point out the location of your classes.
  2. Good and Positive Attitude: to make the most out your Orientation experience.
  3. Courtesy Parking Pass: you will need to display this in your vehicle when parking in Parking Lot G3.

*Also keep in mind the warm Northridge climate when choosing your wardrobe.

Where can I obtain my CSUN ID and E-Mail?

When you are admitted to Cal State Northridge, your CSUN Student ID is issued by the Admissions and Records Department. You may sign up for your CSUN e-mail address by going to www.csun.edu. Click on Webmail and follow the instructions to complete the process. If you need additional assistance please contact the Office of Student Development at (818) 677-4100.

What is the WPE?

The Writing Proficiency Exam (WPE) is an exam that every student must pass to demonstrate his or her writing skills. More information on this exam is located on the WPE website: www.csun.edu/udwpe or call (818) 677-3303.

Whom should I contact if I need information about disability-related accommodations for Transfer Student Orientation events?

Information about accommodations for students with disabilities can be obtained by contacting the Center on Disabilities, at (818) 677-2684. Further question or concerns may be answered by contacting the Office of Student Development at (818) 677-4100.

How do I change my personal information if it is incorrect?

If your personal information is incorrect, you must correct it through Admissions and Records. For a name change fill out the form at www.csun.edu/anr/forms/name_change.pdf and return it to Admissions and Records in Bayramian Hall.

You may change your address or phone number by logging on to your CSUN web portal account. Click on Student Center, scroll to the bottom and click either the Address or Phone Number link, which ever you wish to change.
