Currently in my fourth year at CSUN, I have finally come to the conclusion that I will never be able to give back to this University as much as it has given me. However, to me, that simply means I must try my hardest to have my actions exemplify that of which is an accurate portrayal of how I believe this wonderful University deserves to be honored.

I came into this University as a Deaf Studies major, and while that is how I will graduate, I’ve recently taken charge of my future and changed my focus out of the one I began with and into one that is more in line with what I want to do in life - Film Directing/Producing. This is something that I have always wanted to pursue, but was too afraid to chase after. Over time though, I have learned to stare fear dead in the eyes and wish it luck trying to bring me down. Now I live by one of my many favorite quotes, "If your dreams don't scare you, they aren't big enough."

During my time here at CSUN, and through the many outlets CSUN has provided me, mainly New Student Orientation, I have developed a deeper understanding of what it means to truly understand myself. Through everything this university has given me, I’ve not only fallen in love with myself, but fallen in love with life. I would love nothing more than to inspire all the incoming Freshmen, Transfers, and International students to chase after their fears, step on them, and use them as stepping stones for the amazing futures they’re all capable of achieving. Through this program, I believe I can do that. Through this program, I want to spark the fire that is waiting to be ignited within them. It is the least I can do.

Because of CSUN, I am the person I have always wanted to be. Because of the experiences I have gained here, I am ready to achieve all the wonders this life has in store for me. I am a Matador today; a Matador forever.

Major: Journalism w/ minor in business management
Career Aspirations: Personal Publicist
StrengthsQuest Themes: Input, Empathy, Achiever, Maximizer, and Relator

I am a graduating senior in the college of Arts, Media, and Communication. I grew up in northern California and decided to move to southern California to pursue my career in public relations. CSUN has expanded my ability to get involved and to develop my leadership skills. I have held leadership positions within Associated Students, the Greek community, and within the NSO program- as an Orientation Leader and a TAKE XXV cast member. I am grateful for all of the relationships with students, faculty, staff and administration that I have fostered during my time here. CSUN has changed my life for the better; I would not be the leader I am today without all the opportunities offered on campus.

Career Aspirations: Teacher
StrengthQuest Themes: Empathy, Developer, Harmony, Includer, Arranger

I am currently a senior studying nutrition/dietetics, and I owe a huge thank you to CSUN and the opportunities it has presented me. Though I face moments when I feel lost and unsure of my plans for the future, I know that the one consistent resource I have when trying to find my motivation is this university. In the last four years I have been allowed the opportunity to be apart of the amazing team in the Office of Student Involvement and Development. Here is where I found my confidence to step forward and challenge myself, which is a quality that I hold dearly, and will forever be able to use. But the most important reason for my growing strength is my mother. I am so lucky to have such a independent, empathetic, and intelligent woman as my roll model. (Mom, you’re my MOM!) What keeps me motivated, is the smile on my face either during or after my accomplishments. I can proudly say that I have not stopped smiling during my journey here at CSUN.

Career Aspirations: Licensed marriage and family therapist
StrengthsQuest Themes: Achiever, competition, connectedness, learner and restorative

I'm a 23-year-old graduate student here at CSUN. I graduated with my bachelor's in psychology from CSUN, and I am now earning my Master's of Science in Counseling with an emphasis in marriage and family therapy. Growing up near this campus, I always knew about this university and the opportunities that it offered its prospective students. I am a first-generation college student and with campus programs such as the Educational Opportunity Program and the New Student Orientation (NSO) program, I was able to make this campus a second home for myself. Now, entering my fifth year with NSO, I am the lead Student Coordinator for the 2014 New Student Orientation. My inspiration to successfully complete my schooling career is derived from my family. Completing my scholastic career is also setting an example for younger nieces and nephew. Lastly, I strongly believe that my education path is an example of how first-generation minorities can succeed in the United States.

Career Aspirations: Student Affairs, Clinical Psychology
StrengthsQuest Themes: Input, Maximizer, Woo, Positivity, Context

I am a junior at CSUN studying psychology and minoring in human sexuality. I was born in Los Angeles, grew up and spent my childhood in Maryland, then moved back to LA when I was 13. I have traveled from coast to coast and was able to experience the best of both unique cultures and got to meet the some of the most fascinating individuals. Most of whom I met here at CSUN. As a first generation college student, I take great pride in my school and all the experiences and opportunities that were given to me at CSUN. I joined a diverse group of organizations ranging from sports clubs to Greek life to New Student Orientation; to which I owe a debt of gratitude for shaping me into the individual I am today. It was immediately after my very own freshman orientation that I knew I wanted to be a part of the program, and it was through these combined experiences where I grew as a leader and where I discovered my passion in student affairs. I aspire to improve the lives of others, showing them their true value and making a positive impact in the world around me.

Strengths: Adaptability| Developer| Responsibility | Restorative| Achiever

Going into my third year at CSUN, I am continuing my path as a Nutrition Dietetics major with an aspiration to attend medical school in the future for pediatrics. I would say from the beginning, I have always striven to be the difference, to never be satisfied with meeting the bar but rather exceeding it. This campus and program have continuously showed me my strengths and faults. Being able to have the opportunity to learn more not only about myself, but also of my community is a constant reminder that there is always room for growth. I want to constantly renew myself by focusing on the real me; someone who is confident and content with the who I am. With my ability to critically think and lead others, I hope to be able to inspire others to see their potential and allow them to believe in something bigger than themselves.
