TAKE XXV

Greetings,

My name is Chase Torrence, current Student Coordinator for the Office of Student Development and this year's TAKE Director, and I am honored to introduce to all of you, the TAKE XXV Program and Cast.

The TAKE Program

Now in its 25th year of production, TAKE is a stage performance that includes four skits surrounding issues prevalent to CSUN students.  Topics surrounding Relationships, Body Abuse, Prejudice, and overall Student Transition, are focused on through the lens of 10 diverse students and performed at New Student Orientation for freshman. In supporting the overall missions and goals set forth by our institution, our division, our department, and the New Student Orientation (NSO) program, the TAKE performance promotes university resources and services through real-life situations and scenarios as experienced by our cast members.

Having been nationally recognized, and as annually assessed on our own campus, the TAKE program can be touted as an innovative and well-positioned platform where new students learn about supportive structures in place at CSUN to ensure their success in college.

The Educational Journey

Beyond the captivating 1½ hour performance, and small group facilitation that follows, this program has an incredibly detailed and educational facet that the TAKE cast members go through prior to launching their product to the freshman audience.

Through the Office of Student Development and under the supervision of Christopher Aston, Assistant Director for New Student Programs, the TAKE cast will undergo a lengthy developmental process that occurs throughout the spring and summer. As TAKE director I have the opportunity in helping to facilitate this journey through educational trainings, research projects, workshops, and thoughtful discussions surrounding the four educational topics that TAKE presents on. The cast will use information learned through this process, as well as their personal experiences to help illuminate skit material and build out student learning outcomes for freshman to experience at orientation.

The TAKE XXV Cast

This program is only as successful as the students and staff that put it together for incoming students. This year 10 amazing individuals will have dedicated 9 months of their time in hopes to get their story and understanding of student success, out there for others to hear and learn from. This cast was selected based on a variety of circumstances including their ability to speak about their unique story of coming into college – all able to identify an issue and/or challenge that others may face.  They have an awareness of how their decision making ultimately led them to success and ready to share this with others.

They all started this program as strangers, and through this experience they will have developed into a family, hoping to provide inspiration, optimism, insight, and motivation to freshman They are invested in this programs purpose and a dynamic performance that will truly leave moved and hopefully open and excited to start CSUN life!
