Greetings,
My name is Chase Torrence, current Student Coordinator for the Office of Student Development and this year's TAKE Director, and I am honored to introduce to all of you, the TAKE XXV Program and Cast.
The TAKE Program
Now in its 25th year of production, TAKE is a stage performance that includes four skits surrounding issues prevalent to CSUN students. Topics surrounding Relationships, Body Abuse, Prejudice, and overall Student Transition, are focused on through the lens of 10 diverse students and performed at New Student Orientation for freshman. In supporting the overall missions and goals set forth by our institution, our division, our department, and the New Student Orientation (NSO) program, the TAKE performance promotes university resources and services through real-life situations and scenarios as experienced by our cast members.
Having been nationally recognized, and as annually assessed on our own campus, the TAKE program can be touted as an innovative and well-positioned platform where new students learn about supportive structures in place at CSUN to ensure their success in college.
The Educational Journey
Beyond the captivating 1½ hour performance, and small group facilitation that follows, this program has an incredibly detailed and educational facet that the TAKE cast members go through prior to launching their product to the freshman audience.
Through the Office of Student Development and under the supervision of Christopher Aston, Assistant Director for New Student Programs, the TAKE cast will undergo a lengthy developmental process that occurs throughout the spring and summer. As TAKE director I have the opportunity in helping to facilitate this journey through educational trainings, research projects, workshops, and thoughtful discussions surrounding the four educational topics that TAKE presents on. The cast will use information learned through this process, as well as their personal experiences to help illuminate skit material and build out student learning outcomes for freshman to experience at orientation.
The TAKE XXV Cast
This program is only as successful as the students and staff that put it together for incoming students. This year 10 amazing individuals will have dedicated 9 months of their time in hopes to get their story and understanding of student success, out there for others to hear and learn from. This cast was selected based on a variety of circumstances including their ability to speak about their unique story of coming into college – all able to identify an issue and/or challenge that others may face. They have an awareness of how their decision making ultimately led them to success and ready to share this with others.
They all started this program as strangers, and through this experience they will have developed into a family, hoping to provide inspiration, optimism, insight, and motivation to freshman They are invested in this programs purpose and a dynamic performance that will truly leave moved and hopefully open and excited to start CSUN life!
I always look for opportunities where I enjoy public speaking, teaching others new things, and learning ways to enhance my abilities. I love reading about new advancements in the medical field, and have a passion for helping others in any way possible, whether it's through volunteering or other methods. I am at my best when I am placed in a positive environment and have the love and support of my family and friends.
I am at my best when I am leading others and showing empathy for those around me. I will find enjoyments in my personal life by spending time with my friends and family, and always staying actively involved in something. I will find opportunities to use my natural talents and gifts such as being outgoing, dancing, singing, acting, and leading. I can do anything I set my mind to. I will I would accomplish everything in my dream jar. I will be a person who has touched others and inspired their lives. My most important future contribution to others will be that I am a wonderfully caring friend, daughter, and hopefully one day a devoted mother and wife. I plan on always being positive, courageous, confident, and having faith in myself. I want to surround myself with people who have faith in my abilities. What I want the most for my future is a constant state of happiness, happiness that shines bright and radiates out to others.
I am at my best when I am dedicated to something and extremely passionate about something. I tend to be down when the setting lacks diversity and everyone around me is content with no progress. I'm self-motivated. I have passion and drive to get me past any obstacle. I can do anything I set my mind to. I will help change a person's perspective for the better. I want to encourage them to become the best person they can successfully be. I will strive to incorporate the value of realizing the difference between a want and a need. The appreciation for what you have. I will constantly renew myself by focusing on the four dimensions of my life: Honoring my pride and continue to become the best person I can be.
It is my mission in life to use the talents and resources God has given me to help guide myself, my family, my friends, and many others towards the path of happiness. I seek fulfillment in helping others make it through their life struggles and successes. I find opportunities to use my skills as a leader, listener, and organizer to help guide not only myself but others. I support everyone in my life that I hold close to my heart, especially my family. I hope to be a beacon of light to those who need encouragement and guidance. I hope my strength can be shared with those who feel weak; I hope my love can be felt by those who feel alone; and I hope my optimism can be seen by those who are in the dark. I will help others find joy, for it brings happiness into my own heart.
I am at my best when I have the full support of my friends and family. I enjoy working in environments where I can practice what I love, with people I enjoy. I search for opportunities where I can utilize my natural talents and gifts such as art, dance, event planning, performing, production and writing. I owe everything to my parents who have been through thick and thin with me; not behind me or in front of me, but beside me.
It is my mission is to always be my best and never settle for anything less than what I'm worth. I believe we are all meant for greatness, and that we all deserve to be happy, and so I strive to put a positive attitude out into the world in hopes of creating a chain reaction that will affect every person that I come into contact with. I live by the quote, “Be the change you want to see in the world,” and I hope that being in TAKE will allow me to further propel my harmonious outlook to others. I hope to show others that no matter how lonely or tough life can seem, there is always a reason to smile, and to never stop believing that everything happens for a reason, and that reason is to make you stronger and wiser than ever before
My mission is to be a true disciple of Jesus Christ, walking the hard road and taking up my cross daily to do so. It is my thorough commitment to dig deep into my wounds and discover where my fears are; once the bleeding starts the cleansing can begin. I will be a sphere of influence in the lives of everyone I meet, encouraging them to not be afraid of analyzing themselves too much. I believe the search goes far deeper than generally recognized. Once my mission is complete, I have reached my destiny.
It is my mission to enable greatness, and success in the lives of incoming California State University Northridge students. I hope to seek out their concerns by implementing my strengths of Woo, and positivity in order to touch base on a personal level, all in all while helping make the transition into CSUN as smooth, and enjoyable as possible. I pride myself on my ability to lead individuals towards a positive light, regardless of the circumstances, and I find fulfillment in bringing out the best in everyone. We are only as strong as our weakest link, and no one should ever feel weak, strong communication, hope, and the positive stress for success will always keep us moving forward. On my own journey through life's successes, I hold dear to my heart my friends and family who have stood by my side through thick and thin, and I can only hope that one day I have reached a level of success that allows me to cast a positive light over the entire world, not just the beautiful CSUN community.
My life's journey is to help those around me and try to do everything in my ability to reach out to those who need my help. Even if I am unable to help every single one who need help, as long as I am able to help one person my journey is a success. I will give everyone the same choice that I was provided with and allow them to write their own lives out and decide how they want their story to be written. My most important contribution to others will be that i can give to the people in my life, is my time.
