8:45am - Check-In (University Student Union)


9:00am - Campus Resources and Student Services Tour

A presentation that will introduce CSUN's key resources and service areas providing information regarding student resources in the areas of Library, Learning Resource Center, Klotz Student Health Center, Career Center, Counseling Services, Public Safety, Parking Services, and Financial Aid. New students will express familiarity with key campus services and resources that are available to them, be able to identify resource areas and state services available within these areas.

9:20am - Welcome

An on going goal of New Student Orientation is to convey the mission of Cal State Northridge and a general introduction to campus so New students will express initial awareness of the university mission and values and begin to recognize how they correlate with their educational goals.

9:30am - Immigration Briefing

A panel of 3-5 students, which will highlight their individual success stories of how they are achieving their academic goals. A trained faculty or staff member facilitator will provide an interactive discussion regarding the university classroom, including differences between high school and college, appropriate classroom conduct, meeting faculty expectations, ethical issues - cheating, plagiarism (including using the Web and internet resources for cheating), and campus community standards. A focus of the student facilitation will be a discussion of adult responsibilities, credit card information, sexual assault, student records, and FIRPA rights.

11:30am - Classrooms & Community

1:00pm - Steps to Success at CSUN

A staff member from a college advising center will introduce new students to the college structure (contacts, resources and who to know); will provide basic information on the University Catalog, Schedule of Classes, portal, DPR, Upper Division Writing Proficiency Exam and general information on important forms and deadlines and taking control of one's own education.
