I was born and raised in the San Fernando Valley, and can say that I am a true valley girl. I was lucky enough to be able to go to Culinary School, and find my true passion there - Nutrition. So I came to CSUN knowing exactly what I wanted, and already feeling like I fit in with the campus. However, once I got involved with my sorority and the Orientation Program, my college experience got even better. This is currently my third year with the Program, having been a part of the TAKE XIX cast, and now a Coordinator. I was lucky enough to find my place here on campus and family that I can go to whenever I need anything. The advice I would give to an incoming college student is to make connections with your professors and advisors. They will help you stay on your academic track so you don't have to worry as much about it and have more time making the most of your college experience.

Melanie Gallegos

NAME: Melanie Gallegos
CLASS STANDING: Senior
MAJOR: Business Marketing
HOBBY: Singing, Organizing
CAREER ASPIRATION: Event Coordinator for Disneyland

I was born in New Orleans, raised in Thailand and call the US and Thailand home. For the first 5 years at CSUN I was studying Biology because my parents wanted me to be a pharmacist. It wasn't until I joined Acasola that I realized I didn't want to count pills the rest of my life. Then I started getting involved on campus. It was like I'd finally found my niche, my home, and my passion. I had gone through some rough relationship patches and now I am happy to say that I feel more content, more alive, and happy in general with who I am and being me than I've ever felt before. The one piece of advice I'd give an incoming college student is travel. Nothing will open your eyes more than exposing yourself to a different culture and its people.

I am a 21 year old Mexican - American who is very involved around the CSUN community. I am part of a National Fraternity, and have been part of the New Student Orientation family for 4 years, been part of Associated Students, and done many other activities on campus. I really LOVE the diversity that CSUN has to offer. My advice to the incoming college student is don't be scared, shy, or hesitate when thinking about getting involved. Don't have any regrets while you're attending CSUN. Live you life to the fullest and create amazing memories. One more thing is to be open-minded. Good Luck! See you around the campus!
