The CSU Northridge's Women's Chorale is an auditioned ensemble of university students. The Chorale meets twice each week and performs a wide variety of music, from medieval to modern experimental music, Western art music and works from the evolving multicultural canon. Over the past four years, students have learned to sing in several languages in addition to English: Latin; Spanish, Portuguese; German, French, Italian; Czech; Hebrew; Shona, Zwahili; Mandarin. While presenting a performance each semester at the University, the Women's Chorale has also performed for local public schools, the California Music Educators Conference, and as guest choir for the San Fernando Valley Symphony Orchestra's performances of Gustav Holst's The Planets and Debussy's Nocturnes . The Women's Chorale performed in China in June 2007, where they were hosted by Shanghai Normal University, and then continued on a cultural tour of Wuxi, Suzhou, Hangzhou, and Beijing. This fall the Chorale received an invitation from Music Celebrations International and also has received invitations to perform at universities in China and the Philippines. The Chorale has recorded for the documentary film, That All May Be One, written and produced by Karen Kearns (Associate Dean, Mike Curb College of Arts, Media and Communications), with music composed by Elizabeth Sellers (Associate Professor, CSU Northridge Department of Music).
