"We all live in a state of denial," said CSUN Geological Sciences Professor Doug Yule, who was a graduate student at California Institute of Technology in Pasadena at the time and felt the shaking. "Because it's a scary thing. But the message is, there are things you can do to prepare so that you can be part of the solution as opposed to part of the problem. You're not injured and needing help, you're actually able to take care of your self."
