Chair's Welcome

Welcome to the Music Department at California State University Northridge!

We are thrilled that you’ve chosen us to help assist you in working toward your career goals!  Even though we are part of a public state university, the CSUN Music Program consistently ranks among the top music programs in the nation. We feel strongly that our offerings are on par with any of the other top schools of music in the country and our location guarantees the musical diversity needed for you to mold your talents into a career that you can proud of.

Few institutions can boast such highly recognized music industry, music therapy, media/film composition, jazz and classical performance programs. Graduates of our program often find work in Los Angeles’ eclectic music scene. Performance majors go on to perform with major orchestras and opera companies. Our music education majors are sought after by schools throughout the region. Or jazz, music industry, media composition and music therapy majors are always securing work in their areas of interest due to the well-rounded education they receive at CSUN.

If you are interested in studying music at CSUN, I would be happy to speak with you and to put you in touch with members of our faculty and staff. I encourage you to visit our campus, attend concerts and other events, and meet the faculty, students, and staff. We have an online calendar on this website, and I’m sure you’ll be impressed with the number of performances we have going on throughout the year. We look forward to hearing from you!
