Academic Advisement

Since direct communication is the most effective way of providing advisement to students, NCOD advisors work closely with deaf and hard of hearing students using mostly sign language communication. Advisement is focused mainly on university policies and procedures and lower division, General Education requirements. To make sure that NCOD students are getting accurate information, NCOD advisors liaison with several university offices, particularly the Advising Resouce Center and the Office of Undergraduate Studies. They also provde workshops and/or classes to new deaf and hard of hearing students that explain clearly calculation of academic status (Dean's List, probation and disqualification) and ways to improve study habits and time management. This direct, frequent advisement leads students to more appropriate enrollment and earlier graduation.
