Pepnet 2

Pepnet 2 (pn2) was a federally-funded project to increase the education, career and lifetime choices available to individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing.  Numerous resources were developed over its 20+ year lifespan including online training, national Building State Capacity summit materials, Deaf Learners Community of Practice and Quick Classes.

Access: The Fundamentals

This module provides an introduction to the nature of hearing loss and its implications for communication and learning in educational settings, basic information about accommodations that can make education, employment, and other activities accessible for individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing.

 

Access: Offline CaptioningThis module offers an overview of what captions are and why they are essential to providing access for individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing, reviews guidelines for captions, discusses laws pertaining to captioning, and compares various methods of creating captions.  It also includes video examples and practice captioning simulations. 

 

Access: Realtime Speech-to-Text A comprehensive overview of realtime speech-to-text services, this module provides information about various types of speech-to-text services; including details on training, equipment needed, and hourly pay.  It explains the importance of quality services and how to find and retain qualified service providers, and describes the laws pertaining to realtime communication access.

 

Getting A Job

This module, developed and designed for students who are deaf or hard of hearing, focuses on the transition from school to work. The training offers a series of activities, supporting documents and topical videos designed to help the job seeker prepare for the world of work. 

 

Map It: What Comes Next This online training, designed for transition-aged students who are deaf or hard of hearing, utilizes three questions: Who Am I?; What Do I Want?; and How Do I Get There? Video vignettes, self-assessments, and a series of interactive questions guide students as they identify their goals and develop strategies to achieve them.  Additional materials are provided for use by teachers and counselors. 

     

Online Notetaker Training

Online Notetaker Training is a self-guided training that defines the role of the notetaker, delivers information about hearing loss, and provides notetaking strategies that enable student notetakers to provide accurate, comprehensive classroom notes for students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
