Get Involved

In high school, you had your niche. You were student body president, valedictorian, jock, homecoming king or queen, captain of the math or science team, or perhaps all of the above. Now you're in college and thinking, What kind of legacy will I leave here? Fortunately, there are myriad ways to make your mark here at CSUN. You can choose from a number of leadership opportunities, clubs and organizations, and campus events. In fact, the question isn't how to get involved, but where to get involved.

Associated Students

Associated Students (AS) is the student body government for CSUN. There are Senate and appointed positions available for every major. Elections occur once each semester. Selections for homecoming court also take place during fall elections.

Matador Involvement Center

The Matador Involvement Center (MIC) is the go-to guide for all campus organizations and clubs. Joining a club or organization is a great way to meet people with similar interests. But with more than 200 groups to choose from, the MIC can help you get informed on which ones best fit you. The MIC also hosts workshops about involvement opportunities for new students at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters.

The Greek System

CSUN is home to more than 40 fraternity and sorority chapters totaling 1,400 members. Recruitment takes place at the beginning of fall and spring semesters. Don't know which sorority or fraternity you'd like to join? Go to a few rush events and talk to members. This way, you can determine which group resonates most strongly with you.

If you're already interested in a specific Greek organization, check to see if they have a chapter on campus. Or visit the MIC office for more information.

University Student Union

The University Student Union (USU) is considered the campus hub. Not only does it house the Plaza del Sol Performance Hall and Student Recreation Center, USU is also home to other offices for student services such as Associated Students and the Matador Involvement Center as well as a games room equipped with table tennis, pool and arcade games.

If you'd like to take on a leadership role, you can join the USU board of directors, an elected group of students who make decisions about the annual budget, personnel and programs. Or you can join one of the standing committees. Elections take place in the spring.
