Biography

Sandy Kipp Iles, flutist, received a Bachelor of Music, cum laude and Master of Music with Distinction from California State University, Northridge. She began teaching privately in 1979 and is on the Music Faculty of California State University, Northridge. Sandy has also taught at Pepperdine University, Moorpark College, Pasadena City College, Idyllwild Summer Music Festival, Hawaii Performing Arts Festival, Los Angeles Valley College, Glendale Community College, Pierce College, and the Pasadena Conservatory of Music.

Sandy studied with Geraldine Rotella, Anne Zentner, Jim Walker and Vic Morosco. She performed in masterclasses with William Bennett, Geoffrey Gilbert, Jean-Pierre Rampal, and Pierre Boulez , among other master teachers. Sandy has won many awards such as the Outstanding Masters Degree Student Award, Academic Achievement Award, Metropolitan Theaters Fine Arts Scholarship, Glenn Hedge Memorial Scholarship, American Legion Award, and she is a member of the Pi Kappa Lambda Honor Society.

Sandy has performed with many orchestras and ensembles such as the Long Beach Symphony and Chorale, Los Angeles Master Chorale, Pacific Symphony, Opera Pacific, Los Angeles Opera, Pasadena Symphony, Opera in the Park, Symphony in the Glen, Moscow Ballet, Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, Da Capo Players, Nuance Ensemble, among many others. She has performed all over the world including Japan, Thailand, Mexico, Belize, and throughout Europe, the Caribbean and the United States. Sandy performed for years with Sterling and Strings Chamber Music and was a member of the Nuance Ensemble, Artists-in-Residence at Moorpark College .

Sandy has a very active private flute studio and is the founder and director of the Sterling Flute Choir. She created and manages the California Music Merit Program, was an instructor for the Pasadena Symphony Mentor Program, a member of the Pasadena Symphony Education Committee, and was a member of the Pacific Woodwind Quintet affiliated with the Los Angeles Philharmonic's Music Center On Tour for many years. She was an active member of the Music Teachers' Association of California for 15 years and was an Associate Music Contractor for Peter Rotter Music Services, working in the motion picture recording industry.
