Scholarships

Introduction

The CTVA Scholarships Awards Committee is now accepting scholarship applications for the 2013-14 academic year. General descriptions of CTVA Scholarships are listed below.

CTVA Scholarship awards are open only to CTVA students (including Film Provisional students). The CTVA scholarship application and submission process is now done entirely online.

The deadline to submit is by midnight on Feb. 18, 2014. Scholarship winners will be notified by April 1, 2014 and honored at our annual CTVA Scholarship Awards banquet at the CBS Lot in Studio City on April 27, 2014.

JUDGE JULIAN BECK SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is awarded to a senior for service to the Department and to the community. The applicant’s GPA in the CTVA Department must be at least 3.5 and they must be graduating in the year the award is made.

DAVID LEVY MEMORIAL GRADUATE SCREENWRITING SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is awarded to a first year graduate student in the Masters of Screenwriting program and is based on need and merit with a minimum University GPA above 3.0. Once awarded, if the student continues in the program and shows promise, he/she will receive the scholarship annually, up to a maximum of three times.

DR. JUDITH MARLANE CINEMA AND TELEVISION ARTS SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is a merit-based award for a junior who wishes to pursue a career in the film and television industry.

RICHARD M. NEUSTADT-MATTHEW S. BERENY NEW VISTA SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is awarded to senior whose work embodies a clear vision of the future of the Entertainment Industry. Overall University GPA and CTVA GPA must be at least 3.5.

ABRAHAM POLONSKY UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP IN CRITICAL WRITING

This scholarship is awarded to an undergraduate student with an interest in critical writing.

ABRAHAM POLONSKY GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP IN SCREENWRITING

This scholarship is awarded to a Graduate Student in the MFA Screenwriting program. The application requires the submission of a feature length screenplay. In the spirit of Abraham Polonsky’s personal vision and creative work, it is preferred that the screenplay engage themes of social consciousness.

ABRAHAM POLONSKY UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP IN SCREENWRITING

This scholarship is awarded to a senior in the Screenwriting Option. The application requires the submission of a feature length screenplay. In the spirit of Abraham Polonsky’s personal vision and creative work, it is preferred that the screenplay engage themes of social consciousness.

MICHAEL CHRISTIAN RASMUSSEN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is awarded to a student that has demonstrated a continuing interest and participation in CTVA and/or University activities. The applicant must have at least a 3.5 GPA in the CTVA Department.

JAY ROPER MEMORIAL TELEVISION PRODUCTION SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is awarded to a Junior or Senior in the Television Production option.

CARSON SCHREIBER FILM-TELEVISION-MEDIA HISTORY SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is awarded to a junior or senior with a professional goal for a career in the media history/research area and at least a 3.5 GPA in CTVA courses.

CARSON SCHREIBER INTERACTIVE MEDIA SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is awarded to a junior or senior with a demonstrated a professional goal of a career in Interactive Media, which includes content creation for interactive film/video, video games, Internet, and Mobile devices and at least a 3.5 GPA in CTVA courses. 

CARSON SCHREIBER RADIO-TELEVISION SPORTS SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is awarded to a junior or senior with a professional goal of a career in radio/TV sports and at least a 3.5 GPA in CTVA courses. 

DAVID S. SOMERVILLE MEMORIAL MEDIA RESEARCH SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is awarded to a junior or senior with a professional goal of a career in the media research area and at least a 3.5 GPA in CTVA courses.

SCOTT M. WEISS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is awarded to a junior who has blossomed at CSUN and found focus and direction through their work in the Department of Cinema and Television Arts. The intention of the award is to both reward and assist a student with a monetary gift that insures that the student is able to complete their degree. GPA must be at least 2.5 in CTVA courses.

WOMEN IN FILM SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is awarded to a female, junior or senior student with a professional goal for a career in the entertainment industry. GPA must be at least 3.0 in CTVA courses.

MARC YOBS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior. Service to the Department and to the community will be a major consideration in awarding this scholarship. GPA must be at least 3.0 in CTVA courses.
