CSUN Grad Student’s Class Project Ends Up On Australian Prime Time Television

The idea had been floating around in Robert Taylor’s head for a while—the improbable, true story of a socially awkward 61-year-old farmer who beat professional athletes half his age in Australia’s 1983 ultramarathon.

Taylor, then an undergraduate studying screenwriting at California State University, Northridge, decided to develop the story as part of a class project. That was four years ago. Read more

The public can get a sneak peak at Hollywood’s next generation of movie makers on Wednesday, May 1, at California State University, Northridge’s 23rd annual “Senior Film Showcase” at the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

The evening will also honor noted film director and CSUN alumnus Donald Petrie with a special tribute and on-screen retrospective. Actor Tim Russ will be the night’s host.

The BEA trophy for 2013 Best in Festival award in the video competition

The Broadcast Education Association (BEA) is one of the foremost organizations today highlighting top university talent in the fields of radio, film, telecommunications and electronic arts. Its yearly Festival of Media Arts brings the best students in those fields to congratulate them with honors at a ceremony in Las Vegas. It was there that four California State University, Northridge students—Jonathan Park (Cinema and Television Arts), Blake Gaytan (Film Production), Kristina Ivanova (TV Production) and Cutler Gray (Film Production)—took home the 2013 Best in Festival award in the video competition. Along with a plaque commemorating the award, the group captured a $1,000 prize. Read more
