Opening Reception: Saturday, February 15  4–7 pm

Curator Talk: Monday, February 17  10 am

Panel Discussion with Artists and Catalog Signing: Saturday, March 22 -- 1 pm

Curated by CSUN’s Art History Professor Mario Ontiveros, this exhibition focuses on eight Los Angeles-based artists who reconfigure the genre of self-portraiture. Utilizing their body, their likeness, and/or the intimately personal, the artists encourage an investigation into representation that lingers somewhere between its construction in response to material, psychic, and sociopolitical conditions and those personas that one imagines, shuns and/or desires. Artists include Michael Alvarez, Yreina D. Cervántez, Christina Fernandez, Harry Gamboa, Jr., Sandra de la Loza, Shizu Saldamando, Ana Serrano and Mario Ybarra, Jr. A full color catalog on the exhibition will be available for purchase.
