Teaching Associate (TA)
A Teaching Associate must be enrolled in the graduate degree program of the mathematics department and must be enrolled in courses towards the completion of the Master’s degree during the TA appointment. Teaching Associates usually teach lower division level credit-bearing courses.
Teaching Associates typically are responsible for providing classroom instruction, making assignments to students, preparing course materials, administering examinations, holding office hours and determining course grades.
Teaching Associates appointed for less than half time may be appointed concurrently in another student classification (GA for example), up to a combined total of approximately 20 hours per week while enrolled in classes. However, hours in another student classification do not count toward benefits eligibility in the Teaching Associate classification.
Graduate Assistant (GA)
A Graduate Assistant must be enrolled in the graduate degree program of the mathematics department and must be enrolled in courses towards the completion of the Master’s degree during the GA appointment.
Graduate assistants typically are responsible for providing tutoring hours for upper division courses and assist faculty with various professional and technical activities such as grading homework and/or quizzes, running recitation sections or Lab instruction.
Instructional Student Assistant (ISA)
An Instructional Students Assistant must be enrolled in courses towards the completion of the degree during the ISA appointment.
Instructional Students Assistant typically are responsible for providing tutoring hours in the Mathematics Tutoring Center for students taking College Algebra, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, and in courses for prospective elementary teachers.
Student Assistant - Grader
A Grader must be enrolled in courses towards the completion of the degree during the Grader appointment. Graders assist faculty or teaching staff grading homework and/or quizzes.
