Department events
The Department of Journalism offers a variety of annual activities to enhance the classroom learning experience. These include the Erl Erlandson International News Symposium, the Ken Devol First Amendment Forum and Communication Careers Day.
The First Amendment Forum celebrates the importance of freedom of the press and its role in journalism today. Students are provided an opportunity to discuss current issues with distinguished jurists, journalists, lawyers and civil rights activists.
Careers Day gives students an opportunity to meet professionals working in many areas of journalism. Newspaper reporters, magazine editors, radio and television journalists and public relations specialists are just a few of the professionals offering advice and insight into their careers.
The memory of Dr. Erl Erlandson, founder of the Department, is honored each year with a presentation dedicated to international news reporting. This is part of the Department’s effort to encourage discussion of world events.
