Lively Discussion at Screening of the Award-winning Film
"Go For Zucker"

Attendees at the free screening (February 2, Fallbrook Laemmle Theatre) of the German film "Go for Zucker" took part in a lively "talk-back" with CSUN Professor Michael Meyer and shared their views with each other. Why was this film, the first Jewish comedy to be produced in Germany since before World War II, so popular in Germany? Does it indicate "normalization" of relations between Jews and Germans? Some viewers were uncomfortable with the portrayal of the Jewish family, while others thought it conveyed warmth and an important message of reconciliation.

The film will open at the Laemmle Theaters on March 24 (Encino and Beverly Hills).

Stay tuned for future CSUN Jewish Studies screenings.

Ruth Andrew Ellenson Speaks about The Modern Jewish Girl's Guide to Guilt

Community members and students (including classes from the Departments of English, Women's Studies, and Jewish Studies) were treated to a "Meet the Author" event on Wednesday morning, February 22 at CSUN. Ms. Ellenson read from and talked about editing the many writers' contributions to the book, which recently was awarded a National Jewish Book Award in the area of Women's Studies. Although the stories in the book focus on Jewish women, the diverse audience of students reported that their own situations were mirrored in the challenges, dilemmas, and humorous situations recounted in the book.
