Applying to Tokiwa

Download the Tokiwa 2013 Application Packet. Be sure to review the Tokiwa program brochure for housing, insurance, and other program-related costs. Tokiwa generously provides free housing in the Tokiwa International Hall and scholarships of ¥100,000 (approx. $1000) toward living expenses. See brochure for additional terms and conditions.

To apply, please submit the following application materials to the Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures department office (Sierra Tower 408) no later than 1pm on Tuesday, April 16, 2013. CSUN application interviews for select candidates will be held on Tuesday, April 23 and Wednesday, April 24 (times TBA).

In addition to the included 2013 CSUN Japanese Exchange Programs Application Form, please submit the following Tokiwa application materials:

1.  Tokiwa application form

2.  Tokiwa application essay, "My interest in Japanese culture" (1000 words)

3.  Certificate of health

4.  Two letters of recommendation (see below for details)

5.  Official transcripts from all colleges and universities you have attended

Important note about the two recommendation letters. You should request one letter of recommendation from your Japanese language professor and one letter from a CSUN faculty member who knows you well (not your gcollege dean,h as indicated in the Tokiwa application description). Please request your letter of recommendation as soon as possible, so your professor has time to write a thoughtful letter. Likewise, provide the faculty member with your resume, application essay, and any other information that explains your motivations and qualifications for applying.
