Media Services

Media Services supports faculty, students, staff, and the auxiliary units by providing a range of audio and visual (A/V) services for the University. These services include:

  • Checkout A/V equipment such as televisions, overhead projectors, VHS/DVD players, and other items
  • Support, training and repair for A/V equipment in classrooms or other campus locations
  • Video record special events in classrooms or on campus
  • Video post production services such as editing and duplication
  • Convert international VHS tapes to the US standard for viewing
  • Setup public address systems for classroom and campus events
  • Maintain the campus video network
  • Maintain the campus cable television network

Audio/Visual (A/V) Equipment Checkout

Faculty and staff may checkout A/V equipment such as data and slide projectors, overhead projectors, projection screens, televisions, VCR and DVD players, and cables and adapters to support your educational needs in the classroom or on campus.

If you need to checkout equipment or if you would like to know if a particular item is available, please call us at (818) 677–6363 or visit us in person in Room 33 in the Oviatt Library.

Audio/Visual (A/V) Equipment Technical Support

We are available to provide you with support for all of the A/V equipment installed in the campus classrooms. This includes data projectors, DVD and VCR players, sound systems, transparency projectors, document cameras, slide projectors, etc. For a list of media equipment installed in classrooms, please refer to "Media Equipment in Classrooms."

If you need technical assistance or training on the equipment in the classrooms, just call us at (818) 677–3062. If you need to reserve a classroom with A/V equipment, call Room Reservations at (818) 677–3283.

Video Recording and Post Production Services

Media Services supports faculty and staff with single and multi-camera shoots on and off campus. We will also assist you with all of the ancillary services including postproduction, video duplication, editing, and transfers. Media Services can also convert foreign media such as PAL format (European standard) to the U.S. format (NTSC) for viewing.

Public Address Systems for Campus Events

Media Services is available to provide, set-up and operate the microphones and sound system for your event on or off campus.

Video Conferencing

Video Conferencing is used by faculty to connect with other educational institutions to electronically join a conference at other sites or to teach an offsite class without having to travel there.

Two–Way Video Classrooms

Two–way video classrooms provide a unique opportunity to have a classroom at CSUN and another classroom at another campus interact by video monitor. This technology requires that a camera is installed in both classrooms so the information can be displayed in both locations. This service is currently available in a limited capacity, but there may be situations where this technology can facilitate an educational need that you have.

University Video Network (UVN)

University Video Network is the University´s cable TV system that can be broadcast in the classroom. About a dozen channels are independently produced and originate out of the University Library. Using this service, faculty can watch a specific video or DVD in their classroom at the time reserved. If you classroom is not currently wired for UVN or if you need support for your existing outlets, please call (818) 677–2980.
