VPN Windows 64-bit – Downloading Instructions

These instructions are intended to provide students, faculty and staff members with instructions for downloading the ShrewSoft VPN Client for Windows 64-bit to their home and campus laptop or desktop computers. Faculty and staff who require additional assistance in configuring VPN for their campus computer should contact their local technical support staff.

Note: If you are using a 32-bit version of Windows, we recommend you use the Cisco VPN Client. To install the Cisco VPN Client, follow the VPN Windows XP – Downloading Instructions.

Download VPN Software: ShrewSoft VPN Client

  1. Locate and install the ShrewSoft Stable 2.1.4–release for Windows 2K XP/Vista 64–bit and launch the Access Manager.
  2. Select Add from the menu bar.
  3. Select the General tab (see General.png).
  4. Enter vpn.csun.edu for the host name.
  5. Select the Authentication tab (see Auth – Local.png).
  6. Select Mutual PSK + XAuth for the Authentication Method.
  7. Select the Local Identity sub-tab on the Authentication tab.
  8. Select Fully Qualified Domain Name for the Identification Type.
  9. Enter csun-vpn for the FQDN String.
  10. Select the Remote Identity sub-tab on the Authentication tab (see Auth – Remote.png).
  11. Select IP Address for the Identification Type.
  12. Check Use a discovered remote host address.
  13. Select the Credentials sub-tab on the Authentication tab (see Auth – Credentials.png).
  14. Enter csun-vpn for the Pre-Shared Key.
  15. Select the Phase 1 tab (see Phase 1.png).
  16. Select aggressive for the Exchange Type.
  17. Select group 2 for DH Exchange.
  18. Click on the Save button.
  19. Select the new connection and select Connect.
  20. Enter your CSUN username and password and click on the Connect button.
  21. When the display reports tunnel enabled, you are connected to the VPN.
