User ID and Password
Activate Your Account
Your network account is your gateway to access key applications and resources such as email, SOLAR, and network storage space. Full and part–time students, faculty or staff members can obtain a CSUN user ID and Password by doing the following:
Students
- Locate your Admissions "Activate CSUN User ID and Password" letter sent to you from Admissions and Records. The "Activate CSUN User ID and Password" letter contains your CSUN User ID and Initial Password.
- Visit the "CSUN Login" page, and enter your CSUN User ID and Initial Password.
- Follow the subsequent instructions to activate your CSUN User ID and Password.
Faculty
- Your CSUN User ID and Password will be issued when you sign–in with Human Resources. If you have not already done so, bring your completed New Employee Sign–In Form to the Human Resources office located in Room 165 of the University Hall building. The sign–in hours at Human Resources are Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. For help locating University Hall, please visit our campus maps.
- Visit the "CSUN Login" page, and enter your CSUN User ID nd Initial Password.
- Follow the subsequent instructions to activate your CSUN User ID and Password.
Faculty Temporary User ID and Password
A temporary CSUN User ID and Password can be issued to those Faculty members who:
- Have accepted formal offers to work for the University, and
- Have not yet started teaching at the University (i.e. your start date is a future date)
- Are sponsored by their department chair's office (this does not have to be your department chair) to have a temporary faculty account
To request a temporary CSUN User ID and Password, please have an administrator working in your department chair's office send an email to the IT Help Center with the following information:
- The complete name, telephone number, and email address of your sponsor
- Your complete legal name
- Your start date
- Your 9–digit CSUN ID number (if available)
- Your non–CSUN email address (so that we have a way to contact you before your account is set up)
- Your off campus telephone number (this is not required, but is useful if we need to contact you for any clarifications or additional information)
Staff
- Your CSUN User ID and Password will be issued when you sign–in with Human Resources. If you have not already done so, bring your completed New Employee Sign–In Form to the Human Resources office located in Room 165 of the University Hall building. - Visit the "CSUN Login" page, and enter your CSUN User ID and Initial Password.
- Follow the subsequent instructions to activate your CSUN User ID and Password.
Forgot Your Password
If you forget your Password, visit the "Forgot Password" page. You will be prompted to enter your CSUN User ID and answer your authentication question. If you need additional assistance, call the IT Help Center at (818) 677–1400 or email at helpcenter@csun.edu.
Change Your Password
If you need to change your Password, visit the "CSUN Login" page and enter your CSUN User ID and Password. Select the "Change Your Password" link and you will be prompted to enter a new Password. Then you will select the “Update Password” button. Your Password will be changed. Please note that a valid Password must contain the following elements:
- Standard U.S. keyboard characters only (such as the letters A through Z, the numbers 0 through 9, or the special characters on the top row of the keyboard)
- A minimum of 6 characters
- A maximum of 8 characters
- At least 1 number
- At least 1 of these special characters: ! $ & * < >
Forgot Your User ID
If you forget your CSUN User ID, you can search for it by going to the "Account (User ID) Search" page. You should enter your email address, your first name, your last name, and then click Search. Your CSUN User ID will be displayed if found by the system.
