Office 2008 for Mac

Impact to Users – Low to Moderate

Microsoft Office 2008 for Macintosh was released on January 15th. There are 3 versions of Office 2008 available for Mac users: Home and Student editions that include Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Entourage, and the Standard edition which also includes Microsoft Server Exchange support.

IT is currently reviewing Office 2008 for security and compatibility issues with the University environment. After the initial evaluation is complete, IT will provide a recommendation for installing Office 2008 on campus computers.

This is the first version of Office written for Intel-based Macs and it supports the new file types introduced in Office 2007 for Windows. The 2008 Mac software has a similar display to the Windows based Office 2007 as well as similar locations of tools and features in the File, Edit and View menus.

Minimum hardware requirements are a Mac with 1.5GB free on the hard drive running at least OS 10.4.9, with 512MB of RAM and a 500MHz Intel or PowerPC processor.
