The IT Help Desk has seen an increase in the number of viruses and malware attacks on computers using file sharing programs such as Lime Wire. Using file sharing programs such as Lime Wire and Morpheus to download copyrighted material such as music or video, is not only against the law, but it also can result in your computer being infected with viruses and other malware which can corrupt your files and damage your computer. Corrupted files could be anything from school assignments to your operating system, and there is always a possibility that those files cannot be recovered. To protect your computer and to ensure that your important files do not become corrupted, use of Lime Wire or similar software is strongly discouraged.
If you have any questions, contact the IT Help Desk at ext 1400 or visit the Walk-In Center in the Oviatt Library, Garden Level, Room 29. You can also check the Information Security web page for information on protecting your computer from viruses and malware.
