Why should I upgrade?
- Better security
- New capabilities
The most compelling reason to upgrade is the improved security. The Internet of today is not the Internet of five years ago. There are dangers that simply didn't exist back in 2001, when Internet Explorer 6 was released to the world. Internet Explorer 7 makes surfing the web fundamentally safer by offering greater protection against viruses, spyware, and other online risks.
New features
- Tabbed browsing is a new feature in Internet Explorer that allows you to open multiple websites in a single browser window. If you have a lot of tabs open, use Quick Tabs to easily switch between open tabs.
- The new Instant Search box lets you search the web from the Address bar. You can also search using different search providers to get better results.
- Internet Explorer now lets you delete your temporary files, cookies, webpage history, saved passwords, and form information from one place. Delete selected categories or everything at once.
- Click the Favorites Center button to open the Favorites Center to manage favorites, feeds, and history in one place.
- Printing now scales webpage’s to fit the paper you're using. Print Preview gives more control when printing, with manual scaling and an accurate view of what you're about to print.
- The Zoom feature lets you enlarge or reduce text, images, and some controls. For more information about using Zoom, see Zoom in on a webpage.
Incresed security and privacy
New security and privacy features allow you to browse the web more safely.
- Phishing Filter can help protect you from phishing attacks, online fraud, and spoofed websites.
- Protected mode can help protect your computer from websites that try to install malicious software or to save files on your computer without your consent
- Higher security levels can help protect you from hackers and web attacks.
- The Security Status bar displays the identity of secure websites to help you make informed decisions when using online banking or merchants.
- Internet Explorer's add-on disabled mode lets you start Internet Explorer without toolbars, ActiveX controls, or other add-ons that might slow your computer or prevent you from getting online
Fight fraud with a Phishing Filter
What is Phishing?
- Phishing is the act of luring visitors to a fraudulent webpage, usually through an e mail message that appears to come from a legitimate company, such as PayPal or eBay.
- The message and webpage attempt to fool you into providing sensitive personal or financial information, such as credit card numbers and passwords. It's been a growth industry for several years now. If you receive spam, you've probably already received phishing e mail.
Internet Explorer 7 has a new tool to fight phishing: the Phishing Filter. If you visit a known phishing site, Internet Explorer displays a warning webpage and turns the Address bar red. If you visit a suspected phishing site, the Address bar turns yellow

Clear the clutter with tabbed browsing
Internet Explorer 7 introduces tabbed browsing
- The ability to display multiple webpages in the same window.
- Instead of cluttering up your desktop with multiple windows and taskbar buttons, you can use a single Internet Explorer window to hold all of your websites.

When you have many tabs open at once, Quick Tabs can be a fantastic productivity tool.
- Click the Quick Tabs button to display all of your open webpage’s in miniature, making it very easy to find a particular page.
- Click the miniature view to open the webpage.
