Desktop Support Assistant

Job Requirements/Duties:

Provides computing and desktop-related support to employees of administrative divisions such as: Administration & Finance, University Advancement, The University Corporation, Athletics Department, Information Technology and other supported departments. Helps maintain PC-based computing facilities; diagnoses and corrects hardware, software, operating system failures; and assists in installing new software or upgrading existing software. Utilizes ZENworks Configuration Management to remote control desktops, perform hardware/software inventory and remote diagnostics. Assists in coordination of Help Center activities; manages cases on using the Help Center software: log, track, review, and resolve cases. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Knowledge of Intel-based hardware. Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows (DOS, 3.1, Windows XP/7) and Office products. Some experience in troubleshooting, installing, configuring, and maintaining Intel-based PCs in a networked environment. Ability to organize projects and work within timeframes and deadlines; continue to acquire knowledge and skills to perform assigned tasks; effectively present ideas, explain problems and recommend solutions verbally and in writing; establish and maintain effective communication with staff and students of administrative divisions and supported units and work as a team member.

Training Student Coordinator

Job Requirements/Duties:

Under the supervision of the training department lead, the student assistant provides training support to IT training department and other administrative duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to effectively and professionally communicate both orally and in writing to campus audiences.
  • Must have good problem solving/troubleshooting skills working with end-user technical support.
  • Ability to work independently and use good judgment.
  • The student should be detail oriented with the ability to self-edit work.
  • Assist learners in a classroom environment.
  • The student assistant should be comfortable with public speaking and delivering short instructor lead training sessions.
  • Technical background in software and computer applications such as MS Word, Access & Excel.
  • Experience preferred but not required using mobile devices such as iPad, and software such as Dreamweaver and course authorware.
  • Experience with lesson planning.

Web Developer Assistant

Job Requirements/Duties:

Under the supervision of the lead web developer, Web Development SA's will:

  • Assist with enhancing University web applications, such as the myNorthridge portal and/or a mobile web application.
  • Assist the Web team as needed.

Qualifications:

Must have: Good communication skills; strong understanding of web concepts; strong JavaScript skills, including working knowledge of at least one framework such as jQuery; experience with Java, PHP and/or Perl.

Knowledge, Specialized Skills, and Abilities:

Preferred: Server-side Java Script; one or more of the following:

  • Video, Flash and/or Flex.
  • Working knowledge of Linux and/or Apache is ideal.
