Fall 2009 New International Student Checklist

Group Advisement Check-In Sessions

All new international students must attend a mandatory group advisement session. At this meeting you will find out about immigration rules and regulations, University policies and procedures, New Student Orientation, and registration. You can sign up for this meeting by contacting the International and Exchange Student Center Staff at (818) 677-3053. Meetings begin May 2009.

Transfer Release Confirmation

Be sure to meet with the International Student Advisor at your current school to request that your SEVIS record be released to CSUN. This step is essential to have your "Foreign" registration hold lifted. Once the release date becomes current, you will be issued a CSUN I-20 and you will be able to pick it up from the International and Exchange Student Center (IESC).

Sign up for Placement Tests

All Incoming students who are required to take the Entry Level Mathematics Test (ELM) and the English Placement Test (EPT) must sign up and take the exam prior to the Fall 2009 registration of classes. The test scores will be used to help place students in the appropriate level course.

To find out if you are required to take these tests, refer to the admission letter you received from International Admissions, or contact your academic advisor. There may be other placement tests required. Please contact your major department for more information.

Academic Advisement

Make an appointment to meet with your academic advisor in your major department regarding selection of classes. Be sure to purchase the University Catalog. Be prepared to discuss any questions you might have regarding your academic program.

Registration

Students will be sent a Registration Access Mailer. This mailer will include your priority registration date and time. If you do not register on the assigned date and time, you may not get your first choice of classes. Remember to attend an International Student Group Advisement Session and clear your Health Insurance and Immigration requirements so that your "Foreign" registration hold can be lifted and you can be cleared to register.

Attend Mandatory Orientation

All Incoming International Students must attend a mandatory orientation which will be held on August 20, 2009.

The orientation has been designed to meet the specific needs and to ensure the academic success of all incoming International Students. Students will be able to sign-up for orientation at their Group Advisement Session. For more information on International Student Orientation go to http://www.csun.edu/nso/international/
