New Admit Checklist for F1 Students
(To be completed in this order once you have been admitted to CSUN.)
BEFORE your arrival to the United States
- Complete STEPS 1-4 of the Immigration Requirements for F1 Students
- Get your CSUN I-20 from the Office of International Admissions and Evaluations
- Apply for the F1 Visa in your home country (if applicable).

- Sign-Up for the Placement Tests
All Incoming students who are required to take the Entry Level Mathematics Test (ELM) and the English Placement Test (EPT) must sign up and take the exam before registering for classes. The test scores will be used to help place students in the appropriate level course. To find out if you are required to take these tests, refer to the admission letter you received from the Office of International Admissions, or contact your academic advisor. There may be other placement tests required. Please contact your major department for more information.

Email or call your academic advisor in your major department regarding selection of classes. Be sure to refer to the University Catalog for a description of courses. Be prepared to discuss any questions you might have regarding your academic program with your academic advisor.
- Clear any remaining registration holds with each department

- Register for Classes
Students will be sent a Registration Access Mailer. This mailer will include your priority registration date and time. If you do not register on the assigned date and time, you may not get your first choice of classes.
- Pay your registration and tuition fees
Click here for payment options and fee deadlines. Students who do not meet the payment deadline will be dropped from their classes.
IESC does not require ANY fees for the services it provides to international students. No fees, under any circumstances, shall be submitted to IESC.
- Book your flight ticket
- The earliest date you can arrive to the U.S. is 30 days prior to the start date listed in ITEM #5 of your CSUN I-20.
- The last date that you can enter the U.S. is the date listed in ITEM #5 of your CSUN I-20.
- Please keep your original immigration documents (i.e. CSUN I-20, valid passport, and valid F1 visa) with you in your carry-on bag so that you can show them to the U.S. Port of Entry Officer at the U.S. airport.
AFTER your arrival to the United States
- Complete the Mandatory New Student Check-In
(STEP 5 of the Immigration Requirements for F1 Students)
All new admits MUST report to the IESC with copies of their STEP 5 documents. The IESC is located in the University Student Union, Building C.

Please note: The orientation is separate from the Mandatory New Student Check-In.
