Short Term Study Abroad Programs in Japan

CSUN Study Tour to Fukuoka Women's University
June 5 - June 28, 2009

The Program fees: $3,200 if we have fewer than 15 students, $3,000 if we have more than 15.

As a part of CSUN-Fukuoka Women's University Exchange Agreement, FWU sent 24 students on a 3-week study tour to CSUN in September 2008. CSUN will now offer a reciprocal program to visit FWU in Japan for 3 weeks in June 2009.

According to the surveys of both FWU and CSUN students who participated in the exchange held at CSUN in Sept, educational benefits that students gain from these study tours are tremendous. The Program Fees include the round trip airfare from LAX to Fukuoka, local transportation, Japanese language instruction, travel insurance, hotel, breakfast, weekday lunch, field trips including Nagasaki and Kumamoto Castle, one of the three best known castles and the most masculine of all castles. Fukuoka is an ancient port city with many historical sites and craft productions such as Hakata doll, Hakata obi that almost all samurai use, etc.

  1. No academic credits will be offered. Language exchanges and buddy system will be main activities of the study tour. Classes all morning Monday through Friday: In-class language exchange activities with FWU students, interviewing, language material collection and scanning practice (such as signboard photo, advertisement, menu, etc.), report writing and presentations. Several lectures on Japanese culture in English by FWU faculty members.
  2. Only students who have taken one or more semesters of Japanese will be accepted.
  3. You must pay the airfare portion ($1,231) of the Program Fees by March 27.
  4. The remaining fees must be paid by May 11.
  5. Other costs you must consider are lunches on weekends, all dinners, personal activities and other miscellaneous expenses, the minimum estimate for which is $500. You need a passport.
  6. You must sign a contract and participants guide with do's and don'ts and attend an orientation before departure.
  7. You must submit a final report at the end of the Program.
  8. We reserve the right to make modifications to the plans and activities.

Please send an email to Prof. Hirota if you plan to participate (unless you are one of the 7 people who already have).
