SPICE - Student Panels for an International Curriculum & Education

Do you want to SPICE up your class topics by providing the opportunity for your students to learn about different cultural points of view on the topics that you present in class?

Student Panels for an International Curriculum and Education (SPICE) is a program sponsored by the International & Exchange Student Center at CSUN. The SPICE Program consists of a diverse group of International Students that are available to present information on the topics that you teach in your classes. For each panel presentation, there are typically three International Students, each representing a different country, that present information on your class topic from the perspective of their home country and culture.

Sample Presentations:

  • Intercultural Communication: Verbal & Nonverbal Communication in Other Countries
  • Environmental Geology: Earthquakes and Volcanoes/ Pollution and Water Quality
  • Sociology of Gender & Sex: Gender Roles & Status of Women in Other Countries
  • Health Science: Women & Health: Women's Health Care in Other Countries

Current Faculty members who utilize the SPICE panel presentations in their classes report that these presentations bring a global perspective to the information that students are learning in class and act as an important compliment to the course material. Faculty have also reported that students who experience SPICE panels are perceived by faculty to be appreciative, attentive, eager to participate, and enthusiastic about the information which has allowed them to become less ethnocentric and more interested and aware about the global society in which we live.
