CSUN Student Philosophical Society

Thursdays 6:00 pm

Members of the Student Philosophical Society

The CSUN Student Philosophical Society (SPS) is a student-run philosophy club, which meets every Thursday evening, starting at 6:00 pm.  It is as active as it is friendly.  Students gather together to listen to a 45-minute presentation in a relaxed and informal setting.  Faculty members and students alike are invited to give presentations on a topic of their choice;  in the recent past, the topics have ranged from the possibility of time travel to the morality of euthanasia. Everyone on campus is welcome to attend these philosophy discussions (they are not just for philosophy majors), and everyone is encouraged to participate as much or as little as they wish.  Although the CSUN SPS fosters a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, it is very well organized.  There is a faculty advisor who serves as the liaison between the club members and the Department of Philosophy:  SPS Faculty Advisor:  Abel Franco, email:

Each year, it elects a president who lines up the speakers, and a treasurer, who oversees the club’s budget.  Here are this year’s SPS Officers:

SPS President:  Josh Dolin, email:

SPS Vice President:  Ryan Cook, email:

SPS Secretary:  Taylor Hawking, email:

SPS Treasurer:  Cory Benz, email:
