- Deadline: Proposals should be submitted at least 120 days before commencement of the projected work period. Each award is for a specific purpose and progress is monitored.
- Fellowship Research Grants: Fellowship research grants are awarded upon direct application to individuals who have already established themselves professionally. Such persons must be associated or affiliated with educational or research institutions and the effort supported should lead to the advancement of knowledge through teaching, lecturing, and publication. The applications evaluated must include
- curriculum vitae;
- a full description of the proposed research- 3-5 pages are sufficient;
- an abstract of approximately one page (single-spaced);
- the intended end use or publication;
- a budget and time schedule;
- a list of five referees with addresses; and
- a statement about applications pending elsewhere.
- Grants to Organizations: Grants are occasionally made, upon application, to publicly supported educational and research organizations legally qualified for private foundation support. Specific projects or activities are usually identified for support and frequently the grant also will designate a person named in the application to execute or monitor the activity. Written inquiries are preferable before a formal submission. Emphasis is on disciplines in the social sciences and humanities.
