The WhatEvery1Says Project (WE1S) co-directed by Professor Scott Kleinman has been awarded $1.1 million by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. Along with co-directors Alan Liu, Professor English at UC Santa Barbara, Jeremy Douglass, Assistant Professor of English at UC Santa Barbara, and Lindsay Thomas, Assistant Professor of English at the University of Miami, Kleinman will spend the next three years studying the representation of the Humanities in public discourse. Charles Hatfield and new English department hire (with Liberal Studies) Krystal Howard recently took part in a podcast on children’s and young adult comics.

Back on July 25, Krystal Howard and Charles Hatfield took part in a podcast on children’s and young adult comics, part of the Young Readers series on The Comics Alternative, a popular group of podcasts consisting of conversations among scholars about comics and Comics Studies.  Read more

Iswari Pandey, a professor of English at California State University, Northridge, has won the 2017 Advancement of Knowledge Award for his book “South Asian in the Mid-South: Migrations of Literacies” from the Conference on College Composition and Communication (CCCC) and the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE).  Read more
