The Department of Chicana/o Studies congratulates alumna Ixya Herrera on her recent GRAMMY Nomination. Ixya is a CSUN alumna with a degree in Chicana/o Studies.  Her album "Voz y Guitarra" was produced by Fermín Herrera and Xocoyotzin Herrera (who also played rhythm guitar on the album).  Both, Fermín and Xocoyotzin, are Professors in our Department.  Ixya's album is being digitally distributed worldwide by Rampart Latino Records through Orchard, a division of Sony. The album features huapangos, boleros, canciones clásicas mexicanas, corridos, and canciones rancheras.

Ixya Herrera is nominated in the category of "Best Regional Mexican Music Album (Including Tejano). Other nominees in this category include Mexican singing legend Vicente Fernández and Pepe Aguilar.

Ixya has recently made appearances on several television programs: "Lánzate" (Univisión), "Al Rojo Vivo" (Univisión), "Hoy, Los Angeles."

We wish her the best of luck this Sunday, February 8th. The 57th GRAMMY's will be televised at 8/7c on CBS.
