Archival Training
The archival focus involves a sequence of courses that prepares students for careers in archival work and preservation. It includes a hands-on practicum that provides training in the arrangement and cataloguing of collection,s the exhibition of historical materials, and oral history. Students work with the special collections in the 1.2 million volume Oviatt Library, including the Urban Archives Center which documents the history of greater Los Angeles area; the Old China Hands Archive, which preserves and publicizes the heritage of the many people from other countries and cultures who resided and worked in China; and the San Fernando Valley Digital Library, a collection of over 2,100 digitized images garnered from a consortium of historical societies and private collections.
