The Department of Kinesiology at California State University, Northridge offers a variety of graduate programs, which lead to the development of scholars, future leaders, and educators in Kinesiology. The graduate programs include academic as well as practical experiences in the student's chosen area of study. Applications are accepted for both Fall and Spring admissions.

The department actively seeks graduate students of the highest academic caliber. In addition to University requirements, the Department of Kinesiology requires:
1. Grade point average (GPA) of 2.75 in the last 60 units of undergraduate work (with a 3.0 GPA preferred).
2. Completion of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) with scores submitted as part of the application
(i.e. prior to admission).
3. Submission of the following, addressed to the Department's Graduate Coordinator (see below):
a. Three letters of recommendation
b. Statement of Intent discussing the applicant's interest and goals as they relate to a graduate degree in
Kinesiology. Note: The letter of intent should include specific mention of the applicant's intended area(s)
of study, selected from the seven, 7, areas listed above.

The Graduate Assistantship is intended to provide students enrolled in the graduate program with an enriched experience that complements formal graduate coursework and facilitates professional growth. A normal teaching load for a Graduate Assistant usually consists of a maximum of four or five one-unit activity classes, although adjustments in the number of classes assigned may be made based on student preference and/or department needs. There is also the potential of instructing undergraduate laboratory classes.
Procudures:
1. Application requirements include submission of: a) letter of application identifying relevant teaching
experiences and professional goals, b) completed department application form, and c) two letters of recommendation
(preferably from individuals who have first hand knowledge of the applicant's teaching abilities).
2. Application review will begin on March 15, 2009 (subject to change) for assistantships for the fall '09 semester.
Screening of applicants normally begins shortly thereafter.

Part time teaching/research assistantships are available for qualified students on a competitive basis and subject to available funding.
